CMHL Management Unveils Breaking News Written by habsfan93 - November 30th, -0001

A year and a half ago, the CMHL realized it had come to an impasse when it realized the limitations of the software on which the simulation is based. League management and general managers alike recognized the need to switch to a newer, better software, or see the league close its doors. And thus, the move was made to switch from the EA Sports series to FHLSim.

Well, two CMHL seasons have passed and the league management have come to realize that this time around, instead of reacting, the proactive approach is the best one, and as a result, we would like to announce that Season 5 will be the final season simulated using FHLSim as a platform. Next summer, the league will move on to bigger and better things...

A great deal of research and experience has confirmed that now is the right time to make a switch. Between Seasons 5 and 6, the CMHL will convert and Season 6 will be simmed using the SimonT Hockey Simulator.

It has become apparent to many of those running FHLSim leagues that this is the best mode of action. I'd like to take this opportunity to give you some background on this decision.

FHLSim has not been updated in a number of years. Its owner is essentially still selling the software, but not supporting it or improving it. And there appears to be no sense that this will ever change in the near future.

A couple of years ago, a guy named Simon Tremblay was working as a member of the FHLSim development team, when he became really frustrated with the way things were run at FHLSim. So he decided to go off and make his own simulator, that would take all the good things of FHLSim, improve on them and add to them. What he has created is a superior simulator in every aspect. Commissioner's have more control, GM's have more control, there are few downsides to switching.

Some of the bigger names in FHLSim land have already switched. The guy who runs the DVHL every year releases a ratings set that is very highly regarded as one of the best sets of ratings on the internet. As of this summer, he is no longer using FHLSim and instead has switched.

The switch will be relatively seamless. As the simulator is based on FHLSim to a degree, a lot of the ratings are similar (STHS has a few more ratings than FHLSim did), and there is actually a conversion tool to convert an FHLSim ratings set to STHS.

Some of the cool things you can do with STHS as a GM include:

Right now the STHS is in Version 1.1. Simon Tremblay is hard at work on Version 2.0 which will be even better, and he expects to release it sometime in the first half of 2009. As a result, we are very much hoping to be able to jump on board Version 2.0 when the league converts over.

To the future of the CMHL...its a bright one! Don't forget your sunglasses!
