Rangers add Brad Richards Written by Al Coholic - November 30th, -0001

The New York Rangers made a blockbuster trade today, aquiring Center Brad Richards from the Buffalo Sabres, in exchange for Defenseman Andrej Meszaros and Center Gilbert Brule.

When asked about the trade, Rangers GM Justin Roche had this to say: "We were very weary about trading Andrej, we feel he's on his way to becoming a legitimate number one Defenseman in this league, and was a huge part of this team's future. But with Brad, we feel we got a guy we could build around, who can lead this team for years to come."

Early reports are that Head Coach Joel Quennville will start Richards on the second line with Miroslav Satan and Martins Karsums. The reasoning for this move being that he feels his first line of R.J. Umberger, Ryan Stoa, and Drew Stafford have good chemistry, and shouldn't be broken up.

As a result, Kyle Wellwood will be bumped down to the third line, and with a $3,000,000 price tag, he could be made available depending on how the situation unfolds. It's hard to tell what impact the trade will have on the team, but we'll start to get a picture on Tuesday, when Brad Richards and the Rangers take on Division rival Phillidelphia Flyers.
