Red Hot Wings! Written by hgimn - November 22nd, 2008

After stumbling out of the gate this season wining only two of their first ten games, many people wrote the Wings off. However they're play as of late could have many pundents changing their tune if they keep it up.

Since dealing away team captain Mats Sundin,Detroit has won it's last four games, outscoring it's opponents 13-5 in that span.Ilya Bryzgalov has gone 4-0 with a 1.25 gaa and a .947 save percent in those four games. He's not the only one whos cranking up the heat though.Newcomer Andy MAndy McDonaldcDonald has scored seven points off of four goals and three assists in his last four games, and was recently promoted to the top line.Jason Williams who plays alongside McDonald also has seven points in the same span, both of them are also plus minus eight in those four games.Much of the Wings success can be placed on those three players, but the excellent shutdown play of vetern wingers Darcy Tucker and Pascal Dupuis has improved both the penalty kill and the grind line. Also attributed to the improved scoring is rookie defensemen Mike Green.Green who is in his first full season in the Cmhl has added two goals and a assist in his past four games, and is starting to show shards of his potential in this league.

Other rumblings in the Detroit area:

With the recent departure of Mats Sundin, and the demotiion of fan favorite Slava Kozlov it has left the "C" and one of the "A's" open.Defensemen Sergei Gonchar has been named team captain with forwards Dan Cleary,Jason Williams, and defensemen Marek Zidlicky as serving as alternates.

The Lombardi,Cleary,Samuelsson line not producing near as well as the newly formed line of McDonald,Franzen, and Williams was moved to the team's second line last game in order to give the other line more time to play together.

The rumour that the teams Ichf affiliate would be moving from Saskatoon to Grand Rapids has not verified as of yet, more information will follow in the coming months about the possible move.

Joey MacDonald is wanting his chance at the big leagues and has been reportedly seen in Gm Kemmer's office asking for a chance, look for a possible swaping of goalies as Howard may be sent to the Blades to refine his game.
