Suddenly Streaking Rangers Written by Al Coholic - January 13th, 2009

Just mere weeks ago, the New York Rangers were rotting in the basement of the CMHL. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and the Rangers have won four straight games, as well as seven of their last eight, and find themselves just one point back of Buffalo for the last playoff spot in the East.

Leading the way on this string of success for the Rangers, is Manny Fernandez. He started all eight of the games, sporting a 7-1-0 record, with a sparkling 2.25 Goals-Against-Average, .910 Save Percentage, and one shutout.

But the Rangers have been getting it done on the offensive side as well, lead by 22 year old Sophomore Martins Karsums, who had just 15 points on the season, before exploding with 4 goals and 7 assists for 11 points in his last 8 games.

Rookie R.J. Umberger and Sophomore Ryan Stoa each have 4 goals and 4 assists in their last 8 contests.

New aquisitions David Legwand and Radim Vrbata are also getting in on the act. In 5 games as a Ranger, Legwand has 4 goals and 2 assists, and line mate Radim Vrbata has contributed 3 goals and 2 assists.

But it's not just the Forwards who are hitting the score sheet. Snake-bit blue liner Dennis Wideman has a goal and 6 assists, for 7 points in his last 8 games (he only has 10 on the entire year), and All-Star hopeful Lukas Krajicek also has a goal and 6 assists from the back end.

It's been a sudden turnaround on Broadway this year, and one that may or may not last. But while the Rangers are filling the net, and filling the Win column, let's all just hang on and enjoy the ride.
