Veterans feeling the pressure! Written by Gerv - January 15th, 2009

With the Allstar break fast approaching, it only means that we are moving closer to a deadline. That deadline is the TRADE DEADLINE!

Above Rafalski is very familiar with this time of year.

Phoenix, Arizona -- Many veterans have felt the wrath of the trade rumors and what the deadline brings to clubs trying to win it all and teams looking to the future. Brian Rafalski is no stranger to that and as seen many moves or rumors go by. However the veteran who is enjoying a quiet season in Phoenix knows that his numbers could come to an end as a Coyotes.

"Well as you know when the allstar break approaches the talks heat up and things get cranked up for teams looking to make a move to win the big prize. I just approach it like every other day. There is no need to get all panicked. After all this is the work I am in and it's part of the business. Mr. Larouche approached my agent and I to let us know that I could be moved in the very near future and I am ok with that. My time her as been great and the future looks bright here in Arizona. The fans will have a treat once the young kids make their debut like Turris, Schenn and Esposito. Along with the already nice youth that the club as now with Staal, Stastny, Pominville, Brown, Letang and Seabrook the team can only go up from here. Where ever my journey takes me I will be greatful for my time here and the great tutor I had here in Martin." Rafalski stated after finding himself on the outside looking in being left off the allstar team.

Along with Rafalski, some other notables are being mentioned in many rumors. What may surprise some is that some young players are also mentioned in these talks. Joining Rafalski in the possible moves are: Jordan Staal, Brandon Dubinsky, Matt Stajan, Alexei Ponikarovksy, Boris Valabik, Marc-Andre Fleury, Fredrik Sjostrom, Kyle McLaren, Yann Danis and Freddy Meyer. Larouche was not available for comment but someone close to the gm stated that no one was untouchable, there are some players that would be tough to move.

The club as me know are currently looking to make room on defense for the youger players, along with attempting to bolster the second line with a true top six center and even talking of moving franchise goaltender M-A Fleury who at 23 still as a lot to offer. But it seems that Larouche is not a fan and would prefer adding a top notch goalie to build the franchise around which as not sat well with Fleury's agent.

The final few weeks before the trade deadline should be an interesting one for the fans here in Phoenix. For now we wish the best to all players and especially Jason Pominville who will represent the Coyotes at the allstar game along with Bill Thomas and Johan Fransson who will make an appearance at the ICHF classic.
