Leafs add star Pavol Demitra Written by StajanFan - February 4th, 2009
The Toronto Maple Leafs today announced the acquisition of top forward Pavol Demitra, one day after having their four game winning streak snapped at the hands of LA, a perrenial bottom feeder in the West.

GM Zwack acquires two familiar faces from his days as GM of the Chicago Blackhawks, and believes Demitra and Stajan are even better players nw than they were in Chicago.

Not only did the Leafs lose to LA, but New Jersey, Buffalo, and the Islanders all won, making the loss een harder to swallow. GM StajanFan acted quickly, and after a series of lengthy talks with many teams about adding a star forward, he found what he was looking for in San Jose, as GM Sharky has publicly stated he is in a rebuild stage. The two GM's agreed to trade Pavol Demitra, C Matt Stajan, and a 2nd round pick to Toronto for Martin Straka, Loui Eriksson, Niklas Bergfors, Rich Peverley, and Vladimir Sobotka.

"The deal we made today gives a top scoring forward, an excellent young checking centre, and a good draft pick in a very deep draft. We are excited to see what Demitra and Savard can do together, along with Bill geurin patrolling the right side of our first line. This gives us, we believe, a top 10 first line in the CMHL. They will be hard to stop every night. I had both " GM Zwack stated in the press conference this morning after he deal was officially put through by the league.

Coach Lindy Ruff is extremely happy to see two players like Demitra and Stajan coming to the team in such a crucial stage of the season. "I coached against Pavol and Matt the past two year's when I was in Columbus, and they wre really great players and a big part of Chicago's success. I plan on putting Pavol with Marc(Savard) and Bill(Geurin) to give us one hell of a first line. Marc has been on fire since Bill came in, and Pavol should only help us score some more goals and give us another scoring threat up front. As for Matty(Stajan), w are going to start him on the fourth lne with Pihlstrom and Christensen to give us a scoring threat from the fourth line, something very few teams can say they have. Betts will move to the third line and play with Jokinen and Steen to give a combination and scoring and defensive awareness."
