New Faces in and hoping for a playoff birth Written by Gerv - February 23rd, 2009

Bergeron, Jovanovsky and Higgins are some of the new faces added to the change the General Manager was talking about.

Phoenix, Arizona -- Larouche stated he was looking to change the look of the team. He did just that this past week by trading away some youth. The Coyotes first moved struggling right winger Jason Pominville to the Chicago Blackhawks for young center Patrice Bergeron and a conditional second round pick if Bergeron continues to encounter concussion issues. From there the club then added to their front office with the hiring of Larry as the Assistant GM. He brings a wealth of experience in the CMHL. Accoring to many the new man will be busy building the clubs future since he enjoys scouting for prospects.

After everything settled, the gm still was in search of adding a veteran defenseman. That defenseman was someone they had their eye on for a long time. That man turned out to be Ed Jovanovsky. JovoCop was acquired from Colorado along with Ryan Craig, prospect T.J. Brennan along with Dallas 1st in 2011, Minnesota's 2nd in 2009 and Colorado's 3rd in 2010. Heading to Colorado are youngsters Brandon Dubinsky, Shaone Morrisonn and veteran Alexei Ponikarovsky. The club also made a swap with the Columbus Blue Jackets sending Greg Campbell in return of Chris Higgins.

"Bergeron and Jovanovski were players I was continuously trying to acquire and with patience they became available and could not pass up acquiring them. Higgins was also on the radar. He gives us the option of playing on any line and hopefully with a change he will find that scoring touch." Martin echoed after the morning skate.

According to the club, Larouche is not done making changes. He was not kidding when he said the guys who did not want to play would be gone. Source close to the GM, state that Shane Doan captain of the team is rumoured in trade talks, although he would prefer to stick around. Rafalski, Danis, youngster Jordan Staal, Alex Tanguay and veteran Kyle McLaren have all had their names mentioned in deals and could see a lot more changes in the coming weeks.

The club as a tough schedule ahead and play five games in six days and that is where a decision will be made on where the club is heading. Martin stated he would love the team to get 8 points out of a possible 10. If they can keep up that demand then a playoff birth could be possible. However should the club falter we could see many veterans leave for good.
