Jovo, Tanguay shine in debut Written by Laci Bloomers - March 26th, 2009

It did not take Ed Jovanovski and Alex Tanguay long to win the fans over in Tampa Bay.  In fact, by the time their first game as a Lightning was barely 7 minutes old, both had registered a pair of assists.

Jovanovski went on to make his debut a memorable one in front of his new fans, picking up a goal and adding 3 assists to overshadow a Jeff Friesen as the Lightning dumped the new York Islanders 8-3 tonight.

It was the biggest offensive outburst of the season for the Bolts, who maintain striking distance of 5th place in the division with games in hand.

After the game, while the three stars were being announced, one exhuberant fan lowered a banner of Jovanovski, which drew a standing ovation from the full house of 18,500.

Moments later Jovanovski was introduced as the game's 2nd star.

The first star was Friesen, who scored the hat trick to give him 16 goals on the season.  How good has Friesen been since arriving?  He has 6 goals and 4 assists, and a +7, in 5 games in Tampa.

Rod Brind'Amour, Denis Gauthier and Roman Hamrlik added a goal and an assist, while Tanguay and Bobby Holik had a pair of assists each in the win.

There is no doubt that should Jovanovski and Tanguay fit in this way, the Lightning should be able to challenge for 5th place in the East.
