Bolts earn road split to start Round 1 Written by Laci Bloomers - May 12th, 2009

After finishing the regular season in a flurry, Bobby Holik has made his presence felt in the opening two games of the 2009 East Conference Quarter Finals.

Holik has been pretty active, in fact, downright nasty might be an apt description.

Tied with Jeff Friesen with a goal and 3 points through the 2 games in Montreal to lead the team, Holik has chalked up 22 minutes in penalties, including a fight and a misconduct.

"Good old playoff hockey" chuckled Holik when asked about his sudden nasty side.

The goal going in to Montreal for this team was toearn a split, and they have done just that.  After Alex Auld outdueled Marty Brodeur in game one for a 4-3 Montreal overtime win, Brodeur was solid as the Bolts took game 2 by a 3-1 count.

Games 3 and 4 shift to Tampa, where the bad blood is guaranteed to continue to boil.  Holik battered Rusty Klesla in Game 1, and Klesla missed Game 2 as Montreal team doctors attempted to reassemble the blue liner.  He will be back in Game 3, and could be looking for some revenge.

Mike Fisher and Jay Pandolfo both had their minutes cut back in Game 2 after sub-par opening games, and both will be reinstated to their bigger roles in Game 3.  The pair, along with Freddie Sjostrom, were the only Lightning players to leave Montreal in the hole on their plus-minus ratings.

The Macon Whoopee find themselves trailing Bridgeport by a 2-1 count with Game 4 in Macon after they lost Game 3 by a 4-1 count.  Bridgeport won the opening game 3-2 and Macon responded with a 2-1 overtime win.

Shawn Matthias has a pair of goals in the series to lead the Whoopee, with Blake Comeau, Riley Holzapfel and Karl Alzner (overtime winner) each adding singles.  Adam Pardy has pitched in with 2 assists.

This series promises to be a hard fought battle that could go the distance as the future Lightning players get some playoff experience..
