Henrik Lundqvist Awarded Conn Smythe Trophy! Written by habsfan93 - July 2nd, 2009

The votes are in, and much like in the playoffs, the goalie made sure he had the upper hand...

Henrik Lundqvist was named the winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy today, given the MVP of the CMHL Playoffs. Lundqvist received just under 70% of the popular vote, as submitted by the GM's of the CMHL.

Lundqvist dazzled in the playoffs, posting a 16-2 record while playing all but 15 minutes throughout 18 games for the Blue Jackets. He recorded a 2.08 GAA, a .923 Save % and 3 shutouts. Looking at those numbers, its no suprise the Jackets were able to break the curse and finally win in the final show.

"I'd like to thank the GM's for giving me this award, but above all, I'd like to thank my teammates. Without their amazing play down the stretch and in the postseason, I would not be standing here accepting this award today. They all deserve a share in it." - Henrik Lundqvist

"This has just been such an amazing season and Lundqvist is so deserving of this award. I felt that he was the strongest Vezina candidate of the group, and he didn't win that award, but you know what, I have a hunch that he prefers this one!" - GM habsfan93
