Detroit's Allstar Break Review Written by hgimn - February 2nd, 2010

Going into the allstar break the Wings had gone 6-4 and were hovering within a few points of the 8th and final seed in the West playoff picture. The Wings sent one representative to the Allstar Game in defenseman Mike Green to the Game in Dallas Texas.

Meanwhile in the minor leagues the Griffins limped into the break going 4-5-1.That losing skid meant that they had fallen from first place in the West to second, and thus the Moose Gm was selected to be the person to pick the Allstar Squad. The Griffins sent three representatives to the Allstar Game in Goaltender Jimmy Howard, and defensemen Cory Murphy and Brett Lebda to the game in Kelowna British Colombia. All four players were voted in as team starters.

Brett Lebda opened the scoring for the Ichf West team on a powerplay with an assist from regular linemate Cory Murphy.Jimmy Howard stopped all 5 shots that were directed towards him during the first period.During the 3rd period with the West leading the East 3-2 Murphy helped set up the goals that put the game out of reach.Murphy set up goals by Christian Hanson and Janik Hansen. For his efforts he was named Player of the game.Murphy ended up with 3 assists,2 shots on goal, and 21 minutes played.Brett Lebda recorded a goal, took 5 shots, and played 21 minutes.Jimmy Howard stopped all 5 shots that he faced during the first period.Mike Green was held pointless in his Allstar debut. He did attempt 2 shots, and played a team high 23 minutes.

News and Notes:

-In the 15 games since the last newsletter Mike Green has added 20 points(5 goals,15 assists). He sits just 4 goals behind the record of goals by a defensemen(Marek Zidlicky-24-seaon 4) and is on pace for 93 points(38 goals,55 assists).

-Joey MacDonald has won back the starting role after a brief stint by Ilya Bryzgalov.Mac has allowed 5 goals in the last 3 games on 70 shots, winning all 3 starts.

-Rumor has it that Gm Kemmer is looking to aquire some later round draft picks in this years entry draft. When asked about what he could deal to aquire these picks he said that he is open to all possible deals, but will only make a deal that makes sense for the team.
