Keith kalls it a kareer Written by Laci Bloomers - April 8th, 2010

Keith Tkachuk has announced today that this will be his final CMHL season, despite the fact that he has enjoyed renewed success since coming to the Tampa Bay Lightning earlier this season.

In a surprise move this morning, the 38 year old forward stated that "this will be my final season, and I am determined to help push the Lightning into the playoffs."

When asked about his intent, this surprised reporter was told that he was ready to call it a career once the playoffs ended.  "I will play out this contract" stated Tkachuk, who leads the Lightning with 28 goals and is 3rd with 63 points in 75 games this season, "and then take some time to decide what I want to do after hockey."

"I do not feel that signing a new contract is fair to this organization, and I have no desire to finish my career anyplace else." Tkachuk indicated.  "The Lightning can use my contract to sign one or two solid young forwards to add to a terrific support cast here.  Pov (Nik Antropov) has shown he is the leader on this forward group and he will continue to do that moving forward.  I know he wants to re-sign here, and I expect the Lightning will make every attempt to tie him down."

The veteran center has amassed 205 goals and 460 points in 461 career CMHL games.  With 28 goals this season, he is looking to make it 6 straight with 30 or more goals.  His career high was Season 3, when he picked up 43 goals and 90 points with Phoenix.

The hard-nosed Tkachuk leads the Lightning with 163 penalty minutes this season.  He is in the final year of a contract paying him 7.2 million dollars.
