Avalanche make playoffs!!! Written by Seymour Buttz - May 1st, 2010

Going into this season Avalanche GM Sentinel20 said his goal this year was to make the playoff. Mission accomplished! The Avalanche made the playoffs in dramatic fashion today, winning on the last shot of the season.

Colorado scored just six seconds into the game, but was tied just 10 seconds later. The game was back and forth most of the night and goaltender J.S. Giguere was superb, turning aside 38 of 40 shots to secure the victory and guide the Avalanche into the playoffs for the first time in 3 years.

Giguere says everyone stepped up their game tonight, knowing what was at stake. "I think none of us were ready to go home. We set out to accomplish something and we did it, by the skin of our teeth, butr we still did it" Giguere, who was acquired from Edmonton at the trade deadline along with young goalie Devan Dubnyk, as part of a deal for Dan Ellis, who had played so solid for the team, was expected to be the answer to their success. He struggled down the stretch but as with all big time goalies, was there when it mattered.

"I am veryt proud of all the guys today, we did what we promised our fans we would do, and thats make the playoffs. Where we go from here is up to us" stated GM Sentinel20. "I am especially proud of J.S. as he struggled going into this game, and turned it around tonight."

The game went to a shootout, with Antoine Vermette scoring after several players had already gone. Immediately after he scored, Michal Frolik potted one for the Avs. This set up a very dramatic finish. The old warhorse, Mathieu Schneider, who many criticized the Avs for picking up, scored with a nifty backhand move on Adam Munro to seal the deal.

"Im very happy for Mathieu" said Avs coach paul Maurice "It was sheer luck i put him out there for that shot, i had a gut feeling, but you never know. What better way to win then have  a wiley veteran decide it"

"No matter where we go from here, i am proud. We havea  good core group of young guys coming here, and i hope we can meet with success for years to come" stated Sentinel20.

Congrats on a great late season run to make the playoffs Bill! You have some nice pieces your building around, and some good looking prospects coming up the pipeline too.
