The Sun Rises Once Again in Phoenix Written by Gerv - July 15th, 2010

Blockbuster deal sees Alexander (Mr. Phoenix) Ovechkin comeback to the Phoenix Coyotes in a five player swap with the Ottawa Senators

Ovechkin accepting one of his accolades is going back to where it started along with Pekka Rinne.

Phoenix, Arizona

The Coyotes made one of the biggest splashes once the trade freeze was lifted. Larouche proceeded to land one of the leagues most prized player from season 6. The best part of it all is that he returns to the team that it all started with. This player took a lot of accolades while away from his home and now coming home where he belongs. As the Franchise player the club as looked for since the Coyotes general manager as been looking for since day one. That player is no stranger to Phoenix.

"I must admit that it was not a deal that was easy to make. We had been in talks for weeks and were extremely happy when our phone rang to let us know we were about to confirm the deal. We lost some great players today and want to thank Derek Roy and Marc-Andre Fleury who was a rock with this team since day one and as matured beyond his years. However a change was needed and to acquire a player as great as Alexander Ovechkin you will need to pay a huge price." Larouche stated from his office earlier this evening.

The Ottawa Senators along with Roy and Fleury acquired young defenseman Jamie McBain and the Coyotes 18th pick in 2010. Ovechkin is accompanied with Pekka Rinne who hopes to provide quality goaltending. "I know I have some big shoes to fill coming in here with what Marc-Andre did for this club. I also know that I will need to work hard for the number one position with young Quick. I spoke with him earlier and I look forward to working along side he and Labarbera."

As for AO well he was his usual self providing some great insight. "I am very happy to comeback to Phoenix. The fans were great in supporting the team when we struggled to get out of the bottom of the West. I had the chance to speak to Mr. Larouche and truly look forward to coming back to attempt to push the team forward and look at bringing a cup to the Coyotes fans. They are amazing and look forward to being able to work with all the great talented players in Phoenix."

Ovechkin and Rinne are both RFA's and with the club being so close to the cap Larouche does have a lot of work to do with the free agency period fast approaching. Many rumors have already surfaced that the captain Patrick Marleau could be heading out shortly and Larouche denied all rumors and stated he would like to keep the same roster. However one look and the math is simple. Some players will not be back and if we remember that the playoffs cost Martin's job and already players who struggled in the playoffs are gone could mean some players must not be sleeping well right now.

But again one must think that with the arrival of Mr. Phoenix, the times could be fun in seeing the red light lit up often. Some players will greatly benefit from his arrival and many fans are already scattering the Phoenix sports shop to purchase a number 8 jersey. Who would not want to after Ovechkin landed 52 goals and a career best 116 points.
