The Journey of the 2nd Pick Written by Matsson - July 18th, 2010

The off season of the Wild has been a very busy time. The Wild had the 2nd overall pick in the upcoming draft. That didn't last very long once the trade freeze was lifted...

The Wild then shipped the 2nd overall, Blake Wheeler, and prospect Ian Schultz for the 5th overall, Jay Bouwmeester, and prospect T.J. Galiardi. After a few other minor deals, the Wild then turned around and moved the 5th overall pick and prospect Filatov for the 3rd overall, and the 9th overall picks.

Getting 2 top 10 picks might have been enough for most GM's, but not for GM Matsson.

In 2 seperate deals the same two picks were shipped out for some much needed help up front.

The 9th pick, and Mark Fistric were shipped to Vancouver in a sign and trade of center Mike Fisher. Now with a solid one two punch down the middle with Fisher, and Stajan Matsson was offered a player no GM would say no to.

The 3rd overall was then shipped to San Jose with young defenceman Shoanne Morrisonn, Atlanta's 4th rounder, Chicago 7th, Minnesota 7th, and Vancouver's 7th rounder in the 2010 draft. In return the Wild picked up a franchise center in two time CMHL cup winner, and 5 time CMHL All-Star Vincent Lecavalier, and Marcel Goc.

This now leaves the Wild with one of the best lineups down the middle in the league. Top line center Vincent Lecavalier, Matt Stajan, Mike Fisher, and defencive specialist Samual Phalsson.

Rumor's out of Minnesota have newly aquired Fisher on his way out for some help on the wing, but nothing is set in stone until after the UFA period.

??? - Lecavalier - ???
Goc - Stajan - Galiardi
Chimera - Fisher - Scatchard
Geoffrion - Phalsson - Pusstinen

So with the up coming UFA frenzy, the Wild will be looking for a top line RW, and LW... If the rumor's are true the Wild could move Fisher for help on the wings if nothing pans out during the free agent period. On the other side if things work out well for the Wild during the UFA process, then the Wild maybe back into the playoffs for the 1st time in 2 years.

Either way the new look Wild both on defence, and forward is looking to be very exciting.
