This Cat's Got Legs! Written by chriscmb - December 7th, 2010
After being picked to finish last overall buy most hockey pundits, the Florida Panthers are going for their second four game winning streak of the season. This team of overachievers currently sit one game over five hundred and are tied for the 8th and final playoff spot in the East.

The top line of Kovalev, Dumount, Yandle, Aucoin and recent call up Anthony Stewart have combined for 63 points in 16 games. Kovalev leads the team with 19pts in 16games, including 3ppg, 1shg, 2gwg, 1gtg.

Production really drops off after this top line, as no other player on the team has more then 7pts. The panthers second line is basically a revolving door of no names up front. Such players as Schell, Killorn, Butler, Tukonen and Willsie have not put up more then 2pts! There is a bit of production from the second defensive pairing of Redden and Schneider but not nearly enough if this team wants to continue to push for a playoff spot.

Meanwhile on the farm there is plenty of young guys chomping at the bit and looking to make a jump to the pros. Logan Couture could easily make the jump to the pros as he is still sitting 2nd behind Kovalev in Panthers scoring with 5 goals and is the highest scoring C despite only playing 11 games for the big club. Claude Giroux could get third line duty with the Panthers having put up 2g 1 assist in 8 games but management is not looking to rush any of their young players. A smart move it would seem now that Giroux has 5 goals in 8 games after being sent to the Bombers to help them repeat as Cup Champions.

So although this year was supposed to be a wash and Florida was looking to have another top 5 pick, it looks like they might get the best of both worlds. There young guys might get some playoff experience and they will have a top two pick in the form of Minnesota's first rounder. Thanks again Mark!
