Philly has completed one of their biggest trade in team history by acquiring Jeff Carter and Thomas Greiss. In return, we gave away fan favorite Tomas Plekanec, Simeon Varlamov, due for a number one goaltending career, and John Erskine, an agressive defensive defenceman, plus a 2nd round pick.
"We felt that our team played very well defensively but we are lacking offensively and we were in need for a power center with great offensive skills besides Eric Staal who is currently playing on RW" - GM Tetreault
As for Greiss, he will complement Halak as his backup for the remainder of the season.
We felt with Valarmov it was time to move him and knowing Gerv (PHX) wanted to make an even bigger deal we felt Plekanec would be the bait. As for Erskine it was more of a salary dumping and for the extra 1 million for carter and Hnidy will be brought up on the pro for 500k.
As for today we feel we are a better team and the one that will profit most from his acquisition is Mikael Samuelsson with his poor 8 assist in 20 games.
