Revolving door of trades in Denver Written by Seymour Buttz - December 23rd, 2010

Holy trading Batman! Have the Colorado Avalanche lost it, or has this team finaly received a wake up call that they have desperately needed.

After winning 7 in a row the Colorado Avalanche have done a free fall down the standings ever since and GM Sentinel20 decided it was time to do something about it. He did that in a big way. In a series of huge deals that have changed the complexion of the organization. He brought in Brunnstrom for Mike Knuble, saving a few hundred thousand in the process then flipped Brunnstrom and Alex Biega to Nashville for Ray Whintey and Mark katic, saving yet more money.

Then it was time for the minor leaguers to go on the roller coaster ride, as the Avs dealt Dan Paille to St. Louis for a package that included Dan Carcillo who they later that day dealt for Teemu Hartikainen and John Scott. As if that wasnt enough, they then flipped Scott in a package that brought goaltender Rick Dipietro to the Mile High city. It was a strange and curious ride, but one that appeared to change the make up of a team that had become complacent.

"We were getting into some real bad habits in my opinion and guys had taken for granted what had made us successful early in the season" Said head coach Paul Maurice. "I think some guys were getting selfish and once that mindset infiltrates the dressing room its a lost cause"

However the Avalanche were far from done, the then dealt offensive defenceman Paul Mara to Pittsburgh for physical d man Brooks Orpik. On the surface the Avalanche appear to win this deal hands down, however it does take away from their offence on the back end, and with Orpiks propensity this year for taking untimely penalties, it could be a challenging deal.

Also on the same day the team completed a major deal with Tampa Bay that has a strnage twist to it. They dealt the underachieving Scott Hartnell and prospects Matthew Pistili and Tyler Shattock for Chris Clark, Eric Nystrom, Roman WIck and a 6th round pick. The oddity of this deal is Clark was acquired last season at the trade deadline from those very same Tampa Bay Lightning for Teddy Purcell. After a bitter contract negotiaions in the summer with Colorado he was dealt back to Tampa for Teddy Purcell back. Now he comes back yet again to Colorado, and the Avs still have Purcell!

"Its a strange feelijng to be traded back and forth between teams for sure, but i just want to play, wherever it is" Says Clark.

The deals have made for awhirlwind week for this club and hopefully will now produce the desired results. If not you know more changes are on the horizon.
