Richards thrilled with move to Denver Written by Seymour Buttz - January 19th, 2011

Its taken three long years, but it appears finally the Colorado Avalanche have a legitimate superstar player. But it didnt come without some adversity.

GM Sentinel20 pulled the trigger on possibly the biggest trade in team history on Sunday when he dealt David Legwand, Michael Del Zotto and Phls !st round pick to Toronto for Brad Richards and prospect Alexander Fallstrom. The deal caught many completely off guard including Del Zotto "I had no idea i was being offered up in a trade of this magnitude. I was completely shocked. I hope i can contribute in Toronto the way i did here"

The deal reinforces the GMs pledge that there would be changes coming that would reinvent the core of this team. "We had to do this deal. At first i was reluctant because of my belief in Del Zotto as a player and the fact i saw him as our future. but truth be told if we dont get winning some games we have no future and the scoring had dried up the past few weeks. Somethign had to be done"

Richards is scheduled to play between Paul kariya and Jason Pominville on a solid first line that should produce some offence. Richards was relieved when told of the deal.

"I was very excited. I like Toronto it was a great organization but i felt i wa spinning my wheels there. The team wasnt going anywhere fast and i needed a change of scenery. When i submitted a list to them i specifically mentioned Colorado as a preferred destination. I truly believe this team is going in the right direction."

This deal had been rumoured for a few days but it took a while to announce. Apparently it was more complicated then it appeared. "well first we had to figure out the cap implications and whatnot, then we had to investigate the status of Fallstrom, whether he will be in North Americaor not etc etc then the TC had to approve it. There were a lot of moving parts to this deal and was one of the ones i worked the hardest on. Im thrilled to have Richards here"

Richards is thrilled to be here, so it sounds like a match made in heaven. We will see soon enough.
