West Blows East Out of the Water in CMHL All-Star Game Written by habsfan93 - January 30th, 2011

In true All-Star Game fashion, it was an absolute display of offensive talent as the West came out on top of the East by a final score of 8-4 in the Season 7 CMHL All-Star Game.

Marian Hossa of the Anaheim Ducks, who was voted in to the game as a starter, took the game's MVP honours for his two goal performance. Sami Salo of the San Jose Sharks had a goal and an assist while Hossa's teammate, Ryan Getzlaf of the Anaheim Ducks chipped in three assists and were named stars of the game alongside Hossa.

The two teams came out firing from the very get-go, leading to a final shot count of 61-49, with the West outshooting the East. The starting goalies, Miikka Kipprusoff of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Niklas Backstrom of the Anaheim Ducks, stood strong through the first ten minutes, and then the floodgates opened as Mike Cammalleri of the Phoenix Coyotes opened the scoring at the 11:00 minute mark of the 1st. Zach Parise of the Pittsburgh Penguins would score two in the period, and the East took a 3-2 lead into the second.

In the second period, the West took over and never looked back. Within two minutes of the 2nd period opening, Joe Thornton of the Chicago Blackhawks and Sami Salo both scored on Steve Mason of the Pittsburgh Penguins (who would take the loss in the game) - in the end, the West scored 4 unanswered goals in the first 12 minutes of the 2nd to go up 6-3. The East picked up one more before the close of the period, but the West continued to pressue in the third, scoring two more goals in the first five minutes to seal the deal.

That said, the East never relented, but Craig Anderson of the Edmonton Oilers and Kari Lehtonen of the Calgary Flames were lights out against the band of superstars, as they played some of their best hockey of the season in the spotlight. For his efforts, Anderson was credited with the win in the game.
