Malone Continues to Shine Written by Laci Bloomers - February 5th, 2011

While known stars like Brian Rafalski, Rick Nash and Miikka Kiprusoff get the credit for the great season the Tampa Bay Lightning are having this season, a young winger is having a break-out season with very little fanfare.

Ryan Malone

Malone came into his 7th CMHL season with career highs of 13 goals and 29 points, totals that raised a few eyebrows this offseason when Tampa Bay GM gave up talented prospect Tyson Barrie, center Dave steckel and a pair of 4th round picks for Malone and prospect Eric Gelinas.

All Malone has done to repay his GM is earn an All-Star birth, while leading the Lightning forwards in scoring.  His 22 goals leads line-mate Rick Nash by one.  His 48 points in 45 games is 6 better than Nash, and trails Rafalski by 4 for the team lead.

Malone has stepped up as a leader on this team not lacking in leadership and experience.  He has shown an edge in his play, as his 72 penalty minutes shows.  On special teams he has been solid as well, with a team leading 10 power play goals, 5 game winners and two game tieing goals.

In a pleasant story this year in Tampa Bay, Malone seems to have written the script.
