Anatomy of a Rebuild Written by Flo Rida - November 2nd, 2011

Part 2 of 82

Ideally it would have been nice to start the season with two wins. Realistically, it wasn’t going to happen against two strong teams in Columbus and Tampa Bay. The shots were closer this game but it became obvious that Lundqvist was tired from yesterdays outing.

In hind site, Carboneau probably should have rested Hank. But when you star goalie tells you he’s good to go, you tend to listen to him. However, we have a capable backup in Tuukka Rask who we need to use in these situations.

After getting the nod Rask actually performed quite well coming into the game cold. He faced 20 shots and finished the game with a .900 save percentage. Goalie decision are always made the day of the game so I won’t go on record and say that he will be in net for our next game.

There really wasn’t any stand out players for the Panthers in this game. Logan Couture and Ray Whitney both put up two points and Taylor Hall notched his first of the season after getting some real ice time.

The biggest negative in this game was the discipline. With 21 minutes in penalties, you don’t leave yourself much time to go on the offensive. The only bright side of the aggressive play was Victor Hedman showing he isn’t your typical European, after absolutely destroying Brandon Prust.

Changes for Next Game:

Redden to third Pairing

Giroux to play on top line with Hall and Couture

Rask to play against Avs or Canes

Farm Notes:

Kennedy had mild injury but was expected to play.

PP was clicking at 67%

Seguin, Wilson, Joslin and Byron all score in the shootout loss
