The Montreal Canadiens have apparently shipped offensive blueliner Tyson Barrie (pictured) and pending unrestricted Free Agent to the playoff contending Colorado Avalanche. The expected return is two draft picks in the 2024 draft. This won't help the team win now or maybe even in the future, but it was something that needed to be done. Not a big trade by any means, but the Canadiens continue to add to their future with a few more chances in the CMHL Entry Draft .. albeit many years in to the future.
Tyson Barrie is the only player involved in this deal with the return two future draft picks so fans in Montreal shouldn't expect any help from this deal for many years if ever. However, it does free up a roster space for any potential college free agent or trade that might come their way.
To MTL: TB 3 2024 & COL 6 2024
To COL: Tyson Barrie
"Barrie had been everything we could've hope for, but when it became perfectly clear what direction we were heading in .. it made sense for both sides to explore moving on. We had about a few offers, but the offer from Colorado was the first that didn't require us waiting until the cap increased. We wish Barrie and the Avalanche all the best in their hunt for the Stanley Cup this season," stated GM Ron Jones.
A look at the players coming back.
N/A .. no players are coming back.
