New Acquisitions Lead the Team Written by habsfan93 - November 12th, 2008
The Columbus Blue Jackets, unhappy with their season start, completed 3 major trades this week. D Alexei Zhitnik, D Philippe Boucher, C Mike Sillinger and D Andy Sutton were brought in in deals with the Habs, Sens and Sharks. Shawn Horcoff, Andrej Meszaros, Mikko Koivu, Greg Zanon, Magnus Kahnberg and Jim Vandermeer were shipped out of town.

Asked about the moves, GM habsfan93 commented "It was becoming clear that the team was too young and too inexperienced. These deals see us ship out some youth for some veteran experience and talent that we think will make a big difference. And with the deep farm team that we have, we felt we could bear to part with the youth."

They wasted no time in making an impact. Six minutes into the game, newly minted 4th line center Mike Sillinger connected with Alexei Zhitnik to open the scoring.

Five minutes later, newly promoted winger Johnny Pohl assisted on Zetterberg's 5th of the year. Then in the 3rd period, Philippe Boucher set up Eric Staal for a power play goal, his team leading 7th goal of the year.

To top it all off, Henrik Lundqvist had his best outing of the year, stoning the Red Wings in what the Blue Jackets hope is one of many shutouts to come.
