Captain Canada? Captain Canadiens!! Written by mikeyevil - November 30th, -0001

In a blockbuster trade today, the Montreal Canadiens acquired Shane Doan, Keith Tkachuk, Steve Bernier, Rotislav Klesla, Keaton Ellerby, Pat White and the 6th overall draft pick in the 2008 draft for Mike Cammalleri, Eric Fehr, Cam Barker, Miroslav Satan, Brandon Dubinsky, Angelo Esposito, Brandon Sutter and Montreal's 2nd Round Draft pick in 2010.

In what may be one of the largest deals of his career, Mike Fisher made a stunning move in dealing a large amount of youth and prospects to get his team a captain. Shane Doan has joined the Montreal Canadiens.

When asked in an interview about the move, Doan had this to say:

"I think it was obvious that my days were number in Phoenix. This happens with a new GM coming in, and deciding on a different direction for the team. However, at the same time, I am happy to be joining an organization like the Canadiens. To be a Hab is to be something larger than yourself. This is a storied franchise and a good fit for me over time."

Although Montreal got quite a bit older with this deal, they also picked up some young prospects in Keaton Ellerby and Pat White, as well as a high draft pick in what could be one of the deepest drafts since the NHL lockout.

Speculations that Fisher will take Luke Schenn if he is available are high, however Fisher has stated he remains open to trading down and is rumoured to be shopping for two picks in the 10-15 range of the draft.

Whatever happens, it is bound to be an exciting few weeks leading up to free agency in Montreal.
