Godzilla to guard Thrashers net!! Written by Clark Kent, beat writer - November 30th, -0001
Olaf Kolzig, the goalie Thrashers fans were longing for, has finally arrived!

In a deal necessitated by an obvious lack of goaltending, the Atlanta Thrashers traded for Olaf Kolzig late Wednesday night. Along with $2.5M the Thrashers get a player who can fill the biggest need the club has had since GM Simon Heald took over in February. Going to Toronto is goaltending prospect Alvaro Montoya and a couple of 2009 draft picks. "Acquiring Olaf is a very large piece of the process of turning this team into a competitive team." Heald stated. "With the acquisition of Schneider a few weeks back and with Plante in the system it was deemed reasonable to deal Montoya. I'm not convinced a 3 goalie system would work on the farm and with our depth in young goalies we had very little pain in moving one of them to upgrade our pro roster." Kolzig bring immediate respect to the Thrashers. No longer will teams assume a 5 goal drubbing against Atlanta, instead with the improvements on the Thrasher defence goals will be a lot harder to come by for the opposition. Hopefully Heald can find a way to upgrade the rest of the team in time for the 2008/09 season.
