Captaincy renewed, New assistants... Written by L. Catala - November 30th, -0001

It is with no surprise that the soul and heart of the Sabres was renamed captain in today's press conference.

Saku Koivu, who was a doubtfull case for the long time commitment, faced the medias with his brightest smile today. At his side was GM Ludovic Raynal, Coach Robert Hartley and 2 New players, facing a new music getting into season 5....

A hero in his country, it only took a few games for the Sabres' fans to follow through. Saku Koivu's ethic, commitment, intensity and skills easily gave him the first rank in scoring of the team. The management clearly states his intention of bringing a cup with Saku at the helm, time will tell if the decision was justified as we know the inconditional fanatism of the GM for his player.

But what shocked was the nomination of 2 new Assistants, both who will help out Saku in his quest at motivation: the first one is Sergei Zubov. The veteran defenseman might be a logical choice, but the fact he took the A from Chris Pronger so fast might be a hint at things to come. Numerous rumours have been surounding the departure of Big Chris, force is to admit that recent events follow that same song: " The reason we acquired him was for his experience and leadership. It wouldn't have made sense not to give him the A" said coach Bob Hatley.

The second Assistant will be young and talented Jonathan Toews. The reasons were more obscure until those comments: ''Jonathan deserves this honor, he is a tremendous individual and a wonderful leader on and off the ice,'' general manager Ludovic raynal said. ''He has experience in captaining teams from his World Junior appearances and guys follow his lead in our locker room. The youth movement the team took this season was another argument to his nomination to the assistant title. We believe he can help being a link between the players of his age and the older ones''
