Season 21 prospects Written by Matsson - January 4th, 2024

Updated stats, with just past a quarter of the season done.

With Season 20 underway, the team is set to welomce more young blood into the system. We will look into the following prospects to see where they might end up after this CMHL season.

CMHL Cal;gary Flames 2021 Prospects

#20 (R1 #20) - Carson Lambos - D

- Lambos is a potent shooter with the skill and instincts to manipulate defenders and improve his shooting location. With and without the puck, he activates from the point, becoming a passing option and a scoring threat. He fakes shots and passes, waits for the defender to commit, then bursts into the space he created. Constant head fakes add another layer of deception. -EliteProspects

A potential minute-eating two-way defender at the NHL level. An intriguing combination of speed, strength, and skill on the backend with top-pair upside. -DobberProspects

Will more than likely start season 21 with the Wranglers.

#24 (R1 #24) - Zachary L'Heureux - LW / C

So much of L’Heureux’s game is defined by his physicality. He’s an enthusiastic hitter, one who’s put more than his fair share of poor opponents into the boards or onto their asses. He’ll get under his opponent’s skin after the whistles. He’ll fight. He’ll mix it up. His problem-solving ability through secondary and tertiary defensive variables lets him make plays where others would struggle to retain possession. -EliteProspects

An aggressive forward who plays a physically involved game, combined with good puck skills and an above-average shot. While his lack of discipline is apparent, NHL teams covet his playing style, and he is poised to contribute as a middle-six forward in the NHL. -DobberProspects

Start season 21 with the Wranglers.

#36 (R2 #4) - Chase Stillman - RW

Call it motor or energy or engagement or drive -- Stillman has it. He is willing to go above and beyond, willing to play whatever role needed to the maximum of his ability to give his team the win. He knows when to go after to try and retrieve it, and will head to the best areas of the ice to get a scoring chance off. -EliteProspects

Energy forward with alluring two-way elements and middle-six offensive upside. -DobberProspects

Will start Season 21 with the Wranglers.

#86 (R3 #22) - Liam Dower Nilsson - LW / C / RW

He is a playmaker, a passer, a set-up man, the player who feeds you the puck through three layers of defence right on your tape at the goal-mouth and the quarterback of your power play. Dower-Nilsson never reveals the position of his intended outlet. He scans the ice once to locate it and then looks away, only tracking its progress in his peripheral vision. -EliteProspects

An intelligent center with well-rounded tools, Dower Nilsson needs to learn to consistently use his motor and refine his physical tools to project to the NHL. - DobberProspects

Potential Season 21 Wrangler.

#142 (R5 #14) - Nikolai Makarov - D

Makarov is a large defenceman capable of making dangerous plays offensively. His gap control is good and he uses his reach to his advantage. -EliteProspects

Large defenseman who plays a well-rounded game. Can move well on his feet and make smart plays on transition. Not biggest offensive producer, but uses his size to his advantage defensively, using his body and long stick to break up plays. -DobberProspect

#155 (R5 #27) - Jaroslav Chmelar - LW / RW

Big-bodied forward who will need lots of time to develop his game in North America. A late-round project pick who will look to utilize his size and quick wrist shot as he embarks on a collegiate career starting in the Fall of 2022. -DobberProspects

#176 (R6 #16) - Ben Boyd - LW / C / RW

Big-bodied centerman who played a hard, heavy game in all areas on the ice. Has a desire to win puck battles and sticks up for his teammates when needed. Not much of a playmaker or shooter, but makes a strong net-front presence. -DobberProspect
