CMHL and ICHF S18 Award Winners! Written by habsfan93 - August 1st, 2022

Another year in the books! A total of 28 votes were received for the end-of-season awards ballot which might just be an all-time high and there were a few big winners, notably Leon Draisaitl, Anze Kopitar, Jack Campbell and GMs Dan (NSH) and Gino (EDM)!

Read on to find out all the winners!

Let's start with the CMHL player awards!

The big winner of the night was Leon Draisaitl of the Canucks who, along with the Rocket Richard Trophy he'd already won, was deemed the recipient of the Hart Trophy and the Lester B. Pearson Award for the league's most valuable player. Draisaitl received a whopping 86% of the Hart votes edged out Anze Kopitar by one vote for the Pearson.

Sticking with the Canucks, the Norris Trophy for the league's best defenceman was awarded to Jacob Trouba, with 68% of the votes. Luke Schenn of the Islanders received the majority of the other votes.

The Vezina Trophy for the league's best goalie was awarded to Jordan Binnington of the Lightning, with 82% of the votes. Robin Lehner was the runner-up receiving all but one of the remaining votes.

The Calder Trophy for the league's best rookie was awarded to Jason Robertson of the Hurricanes with the forward receiving 61% of the votes and beating out both starting goalies that were nominated. Thatcher Demko was the runner-up receiving all but one of the remaining votes.

To add to his Art Ross Trophy, Jonathan Toews of the Islanders took home the Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward with 68% of the votes. Last year's winner, Aleksander Barkov, was the runner-up, receiving all but one of the remaining votes.

To finish off, the other double winner of the night was Anze Kopitar of the Capitals who received both the Lady Byng Trophy as the league's most sportsmanlike player and the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs. Kopitar received exactly 50% of the votes for the Lady Byng, edging out Sebastian Aho who had the majority, but not all, of the remaining votes. However, he was a near unanimous selection for the Conn Smythe, receiving all but two votes.

Next up, the ICHF player awards!

And the big winner here was Jack Campbell of the Seattle Kraken, who took home the Hart, Lester B. Pearson and Vezina Awards! To be sure, Campbell had a stunning season in nets for the Kraken's farm team and deserves every inch of the awards. Combined with the Jennings Trophy that he'd already won, that's 4 major awards for the year! Campbell's vote share was 79% of both the Hart and Vezina votes and 40% of the Pearson votes.

The ICHF Pearson Trophy in particular got a wide array of nominations from the league's GMs with votes going to Alex Formenton, Colton Sceviour, Noah Dobson, Jonathan Bernier, Nicholas Roy, Ryan Hartman and Troy Terry. Heck, even Jonathan Toews and "Andrew Kopitar" got votes for the award from a couple of inattentive GMs! :D

Speaking of Noah Dobson of the Blue Jackets, he was the winner of the Norris Trophy with 86% of the votes. Oliver Kylington was the runner-up.

Sticking with the Blue Jackets, Alex Formenton was named the winner of the Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward with 64% of the votes. Colton Sceviour was the runner-up with the majority of the remaining votes.

He wasn't the runner-up of the next award though as Colton Sceviour of the Maple Leafs was declared the winner of the Lady Byng Trophy as the league's most sportsmanlike player with 64% of the votes. Michael Amadio and Casey Mittlestadt split the remaining votes more or less evenly.

And to wrap things up, the league's GMs went with the goalie and awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoffs MVP to Jonathan Bernier of the Maple Leafs. He received 57% of the votes while Mittlestadt and Texier evenly split the remaining votes.

On to the GM awards to see who our members favored among their peers...

The habsfan93 Award for the CMHL's best GM based on team performance during the regular season was awarded to Dan of the Nashville Predators, capping off his stunning second half of the season to finish 3rd in the West and win the Division for the first time. Dan received 61% of the votes with Aaron (TOR) and Bryan (SEA) nearly evenly splitting the remaining votes.

GMs weren't done with Dan though, as they also awarded him the Grizzlygoalie Award for Decision-Making Ability with exactly 50% of the votes. Bryan (SEA) was the runner-up with 35% of the votes followed by Louie (VGK).

When you win two President's Trophies in consecutive seasons, something must be going right and the GMs recognized that, awarding the Jack Adams Trophy for the ICHF's best GM based on team performance during the regular season to Gino of the Edmonton Oilers. Gino received 71% of the votes while Bryan (SEA) received all but one of the remaining votes.

Gino doesn't just win ICHF games though and GMs also recognized him as a major contributor to the league's community, awarding him the AsmodeanReborn Award for GM activity on the forums with 64% of the votes. Devon (DET) with his weekly POTW polls and consistent presence was the runner-up, receiving all but one of the remaining votes.

Unlike Bryan, GMs didn't let Devon and the Red Wings go home empty-handed as they awarded him the M3 Award for commitment to submitting lines and managing his team in a near-unanimous selection (86% vote share). Sasha (ANA) was the runner-up with all but one of the remaining votes.

In the closest race of the awards ballot, the GMs chose newcomer Ron of the Canadiens to be the recipient of the Jay Award as the GM who displayed the greatest amount of drive and passion for being a GM in their interactions with the league. Ron beat out Greg (PHI) by one vote to take 46% of the vote share and proved that it doesn't take a veteran GM to make an impact. Ron's contributions to the league by updating the website trade archive have been greatly valued by everyone!

Lastly, in another very close race, there was no winner but a tie! The Kookaranian Award for demonstrating the most cunning trading ability over the season was awarded to both Dan (NSH) and Aaron (TOR), who each received 39% of the votes.
