S18 Rangers Outlook Written by Mark Near - November 24th, 2021

After a disappointing end to the S17 season, the Rangers started the S18 season with 3 losses

After a disappointing end to the S17 season, the Rangers started the S18 season with 3 losses but has started to find their rhythm winning their next 3. The schedule has faced some top competition to start the season and will have to rebound if they want to compete against the top teams in the league.

The Rangers have great star power and depth upfront with Sutter, Travares, Stone, and Nylander leading the way upfront with great depth scoring forwards (Compher, Gourde, Dvorak). The depth continues and we should expect to see lots of competition for spots on the bottom 6 with Paul/Smith/Wagner/Lomberg/Hayes/Perreault/Petan all wanting minutes. The defense is led by Norris winner Hamilton and secondary support from Hamonic/Staal and Irwin/Carlo/Stone making up the bottom. Overall not the strongest backend, but Rangers are expecting Hamilton and Hamonic to play a big part on the PP. Merlikins and Oettinger create a very young tandem at the back and are expected to split starts.

Should expect the Rangers to be active this season looking to upgrade their defense and add an extra boost to their top 9. Losing to the Caps twice hurt, excited to see how that unfolds!!
