The Colorado Avalanche have a new face of the organization as earlier today, the team was handed over to Geordie Cooper. Geordie comes in with almost 10 years of SIM experience split over two different leagues and just so happens to be a massive Avalanche fan.

In the days and hours leadingup to the CMHL trade deadline the Colorado Avalanche consumated a mind blowing 13 deals. Most were of the minor variety but there were two that particularily stood out and should give this team and identity.

Whoever said you cant come home again must not have known the career of Michael Ryder. Ryder was acquired on Monday by the Colorado Avalanche along with a couple of late round picks for Chad Larose, Evgeny Grachev and minor league d man Jordan Henry. The deal marks the third tour of duty for Ryder in Denver.

The Colorado Avalanche have been one of the busiest teams so far in the off season, making a whopping fourteen trades thus far. This past week the CMHL entry draft took place and it was no surprise that Avalanche GM Bill Kellett was active once agin.

In one of the more curious moves of the season, the underachieving Colorado Avalanche brought in 42 year old veteran Mark Recchi. However, this story seems to have a feel good angle to it. It makes little sense for a team currently out of playoff contention to bring in a veteran with only a few months left on his contract and very little gas left in the tank, yet to here Recchi this is like winning the Stanley Cup

In yet another blcokbuster move the Colorado Avalanche put an eye towards their future in acquiring goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and forward Guillaime Latendresse. Its a deal that made a lot of sense on many fronts and has signaled that the Avalanche are serious about this club, but at what cost?
