The Wings enter the new year on a tare.In their last 10 games,they've won 7 times.and in their last 12,they've won 9.This run has pushed the team into the 7th spot in the Western Conference,although they have played more games than trailing Colorado,Chicago,and Nashville.

At the start of the season many Fans predicted that the Wings would be in the basement of the league yet again.Gm Kemmer said to be patient as the team is undergoing a rebuild from top to bottom,and that he didn't expect the team to improve drastically overnight.The Wings managed to have a respectable season that saw them win 39 games,and be in contention for a playoff spot until the final week of the season.

With time running out on this season of hockey the Red Wings are in prime position to make a last minute push to get into the postseason.The Wings are tied the Leafs in least amount of games played this season with 75,while most others have played 77 or 78.This means that the Wings have the potential to gain more points than other teams in front of them in the standings.
Detroit's Allstar Break Review

Going into the allstar break the Wings had gone 6-4 and were hovering within a few points of the 8th and final seed in the West playoff picture.The Wings sent one representative to the Allstar Game in defenseman Mike Green to the Game in Dallas Texas.
Meanwhile in the minor leagues the Griffins limped into the break going 4-5-1.That losing skid meant that they had fallen from first place in the West to second,and thus the Moose Gm was selected to be the person to pick the Allstar Squad.The Griffins sent three representatives to the Allstar Game in Goaltender Jimmy Howard,and defensemen Cory Murphy and Brett Lebda to the game in Kelowna British Colombia.All four players were voted in as team starters.

After starting the season 4-5-1, most people had written the Wings off. But a midseason surge has pushed them back into the playoff picture, after going 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. The Wings have seemingly found their groove after two trades that saw Radek Martinek, Mikael Samuelsson, Slava Kozlov, Clay Wilson, and two late picks moved out of the Motor City.

After a disappointing season in the Motorcity,the Wings held the number 4 overall draft pick.After talks failed to produce anything of real interest to Gm Kemmer.The Wings decided to hold onto the pick,and selected forward Evander Kane from the Western Hockey League's Vancouver Giants.
Season 5 wrapup

The season started with high hopes after making the playoffs last season.Joel Bouchard and Stephane Robidas were brought in to help shore up the Defence and with the heralded arrival of Mike Green the defence was supposed to be the best that Detroit had even seen.Mats Sundin was supposed to gel with fellow countryman Johan Franzen,and in net Ilya Bryzgalov was supposed to continue his strong play.Sadly none of those things came to fruition,and the fans of the Wings were forced to endure yet another lackluster season,which is now widely excepted as the norm.
Trade Deadline looms.

As the 2008-2009 Cmhl trade deadline nears the Red Wings are figured to be active sellers.They are currently tied for last place in the league with the Colorado Avalanche with 49 points through 64 games this season.Many have questioned the path that Gm Kemmer has led the team down in the past few seasons,but critics could be silenced if the Wings swing some deadline deals.

The title says it all.This season,which started off disasterious,slowly turned into a season in which the team had hope,but injuries to key players such as Stephane Robidas and goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov,who sat out a week with the flu derailed the team,and has led them into the league's basement.
