Dallas breaks out the brooms and advances to Semi-Finals! Written by habsfan93 - May 18th, 2024

The Stars pulled off a shocking double-sweep of the Canucks in both the CMHL and ICHF to advance to the Semi-Finals in both leagues. The last time the Stars had a team in the semis in either league was Season 17 when they went to the CMHL Conference Finals. Let's look at each of their matchups for this second round.

CMHL - Dallas (5) vs Las Vegas (7)

Season Series: Dallas won the series 2-1, scoring 8 goals to Vegas' 6.

The West was such a tight conference that even though Vegas finished 7th, they were actually only two points below the Stars and in fact, had more wins on the season but four less OT losses. In terms of team stats, they aren't altogether different from Vancouver - a little worse on shots against, faceoffs and the power play but otherwise, much like Vancouver, on paper they stack up pretty well. For whatever reason, Dallas had Vancouver's number in Round 1 and they'll hope to have similar success against the Golden Knights.

For that to happen, they're going to need Fredrik Andersen to continue playing the way he played in Games 1-3. He didn't have a great Game 4 and was rescued by Antti Raanta and the offense but the Stars have confirmed that they are going back to Andersen in Game 1 of the semis. The Stars will also need Brayden Point to continue playing at the level he's playing - he and Andrew Mangiapane scored 7 of the team's 20 goals in Round 1.

The Golden Knights themselves upset the St. Louis Blues with some stellar play from their own goalie, Casey DeSmith. Outside of Game 1, they didn't score a lot of goals and won the series by shutting St. Louis down offensively. If Dallas can break through the Vegas defence and score the way they did against Vancouver, the odds may be in their favour.

ICHF - Minnesota North Stars/DAL (4) vs Longueuil Unicorns/EDM (1)

Season Series: The teams split the series 1-1, with EDM outscoring DAL 5-4.

What is there to say. Credit to Gino, Edmonton is and has been one of the best teams in the ICHF for years. We're just gonna hope for the best in this one! :LOL
