Marc's Team: The Minnesota Wild.
The battle is raging... The always feared Minnesota Wild is battling this year
for a playoff spot and what a fight they're giving...
Marc
is always keeping his team where it matters; in playoff contention. A non
Orthodox GM in how he manages his roster, Marc aka Matsson, is without a doubt
one of the most original out there. When you look at his squad, and only concentrate on
the ratings and not the names, you can then understand why he competes years
after years. Where some of us see a way to build a NHL franchise with our sim
team, Marc swings the other way and goes for results and efficiency. You
have the numbers he's looking for? then you're in.
Having that in mind, you are now not surprised to see that his best players would be Jeremy Roenick, Bertuzzi, Niinima and Esche... Living in the past will you say? well not in the CMHL world. JR, big Berta and Niinima are top players and bring the numbers to the concession.
Dustin Penner, Marek Svatos, newly acquired Daniel Sedin and jeff Shultz are the names of the future though and little by
little will or should bring stability to the Wild's squad. The latest
acquisition of Daniel Sedin and Karlis Skrastins appears to be a step in the
right direction even though the loss of a 84 DF dman in Zanon might be felt down
the road... But who are we to argue a decision that brings a guy like Sedin in
town... A first step at reuniting the twins maybe?
But now, where do they stand? 9th with 65 points. 1 short of the Wings and only
2 of the sharks who have both been hitting a wall lately. Minnesota will need to
get their groove on and step back in the game as soon as they can or while they
can. Their 4-4-2 record in the last 10 isn't the most impressive and even if
they like the Avs and Nucks very much as shows their impressive crushing record
against them, they will have to do better against the "REAL" competition... If
you guys aren't excited by the fight going on on the West side, the Hockey sim
world isn't for you.
5 minutes with a Gm at work:
“what is the philosophy of your
organisation?”
- I think it would have to be Calgary or bust... My
blood runs deep with the city, and all of the teams. Hitmen, Flames, (not for
this league but) Stampeders. You can go down any of the past or present
rosters and find good quality players. They also seem to have one great
player, and tons of support. I try to do the same with the Wild.
“JR, Niinima, Numminen... you seem to love the veterans... Why?”
- Without solid vets a young team cannot go deep
into the playoffs. Veteran's bring experiance, and leadership. The key though
is to find the right balance.
“ "How much do you involve yourself in the league, is it a full time job?”
- Not a 100% sure, but I would say on average I
spend 25-30 hours a week on the forums.
“Are you looking forward to the Trade deadline?”
-Yes, as always I will be moving a few players...
This time though I think I might be on the outside looking in (playoff-wise),
so I would have to venture a guess and say I'll be a seller.
“let’s say tomorrow you get the right to have realized one wish in order to
improve either your team or the CMHL, what would you do?”
- One wish for the Wild, would be to have the trade
back where I moved Kipper. What person in their right mind would trade a
quality guy like him. He brings so much to a team, and can steal games all by
himself. My one wish for the league is a full, and healthy league... Loads of
GM involvement, and tons of people on the waiting lists to join THE best
league, period!
