Hours after being hired as the new Ottawa GM, Sawchuk has made a few deals. One was a minor one with veteran Steve Staois joining the team while the other one was quite bigger seeing Pavol Demitra come into town....
The first deal was very minor seeing Ottawa moving a 3rd rounder for veteran Steve Staios. We feel Steve will bring key leadership to this team.
The 2nd deal was bigger seeing Ottawa land a top notch winger in Pavol Demitra. Coming into town with Demitra was blueliner Henrik Tallinder. We feel that both of these players are key additions to our already strong lineup.
Going out of town in the trade with Sharky was veteran blueliner Adam Foote, mediocre winger Justin Williams, 4th liner Christoph Schubert and a 2nd round pick in this upcoming draft.
All in all the first day as GM was thought to be a success as some team needs were addressed and the new GM added a bit of personal touch to the team.
Rumoured to be heading out of town are Rick Dipietro, Antoine Vermette, Freddy Modin, Patrick Elias, Kim Johnsson, Braydon Cobourn, Zybanek Michalek and the hottest name mentioned was Anton Volchenkov.
